A stellar season for the top Putoline sponsored road & track teams in 2017
Way back in January while we were still de-icing windscreens the Team Winfield UK squad of Jeremy McWilliams, Peter Hickman, Conor Cummins, John McGuinness, James Hillier & Glen Richards went down under to the iconic Phillip Island and successfully defended the Island Classic title against the Aussies, as well as strong line ups from New Zealand, USA & Ireland, all riding pre 1984 Superbikes-quite a sight! Team Winfield were also on the top step at the Classic TT with Josh Brookes successfully defending their Senior TT crown-and bagging his first Island victory-standing in for their 2016 winner John McGuinness, again on the exquisite Italian Paton.
Whilst the legendary Ryan Farquhar has called it a day as a rider, his bikes certainly haven’t and the KMR Supertwin scored a superb class victory at the North West 200 with the evergreen Michael Rutter aboard. At the TT Peter Hickman scored a maiden podium for KMR, whilst Supertwin debutant Josh Brookes came in 6th.Those 650 twins produce almost double their standard power, no problem for Nano Tech though!
Putoline teamed up with another force of real roads racing, Dean Harrison. Dean, riding the Kawasakis of the ultra-professional Silicone Engineering team was not only a podium visitor at the NW200 and the TT, he also scored stunning victories at the Classic TT on a 1990s ZXR750, Southern 100 and the Ulster GP where he became the fastest rider in the world with an incredible lap of 134.614mph! If that wasn’t enough Dean again dominated the Scarborough road races, taking his career tally to over 70 wins and became only the third rider in history to retain the Duke Road Racing Rankings title. He also somehow found time to compete regularly in BSB and get a respectable 7th place finish at the Macau GP, somewhere he hasn’t been for quite a while. Results like these on the roads takes a special team using special oils and Silicone’s crew chief Jonny Bagnall and legendary engine builder Dave ‘Junior’ Collins both agreed that Putoline products were more than up to the task.
In the high profile British Superbikes, Putoline stayed with the family-run TAG Anvil Hire Yamaha team and were royally rewarded as the tight-knit independent squad stunned the paddock, first by signing 2015 BSB champion Josh Brookes and then by going on to place him on the podium 10 times, including three wins, on his way to finishing a close second in the championship to six-time victor Shane Byrne. TAG is a real family affair with Rob & Tracy Winfield the team owners whilst son Gary is team manager and Shaun the team’s second rider and designer of their fabulous livery and merchandise.
Team owner Rob Winfield summed up his thoughts “I need to say a massive thank you to everyone, last year we scored three points all season, this year we were three points from winning the entire show. As an independent team we need to be able to use products that allow us to compete at the highest level; Putoline’s huge range and especially their Nano Tech lubricants have ensured we were right at the sharp end all season.”
Preparations are already well underway for 2018 with the Island Classic first up in January when the dominant Jeremy McWilliams will again team up with Hickman and Richards, but strengthen even further with Michael Rutter, Dan Linfoot and Lee Johnston joining the squad.
So, it’s been a very busy year out there on the tracks and the roads but one thing is clear; Putoline Oils have performed time and time again in some of the most hostile environments there is!
Better still, with the World’s largest range of Motorcycle only products, on any kind of surface, Putoline always has The Right Oil!
